Music and Dance Scholarships Award

Recipients Announced

 

Each year the Southwest Celtic Music Association sponsors two types of scholarships to young people who wish to further their study of Celtic music and dance: the Byron D. Cameron Memorial Music Scholarship and the Irish Dance Scholarship. Award amounts are $500 per scholarship and may be used by the recipients for lessons, costumes, instruments, workshops, or anything that will directly assist them in furthering their study of Celtic music or dance. Funds may also be used for travel expenses to workshops or competitions.

The Scholarship Committee of the SCMA is pleased to recognize the winners of the Music and Dance essay contest for 2010. The winners will each be presented with a grant of $500 to use for the advancement of their skills. Over thirty young individuals learning Irish/Celtic music and dance took part this year.

The Committee reported that this was the highest caliber of essay entries they have received in the history of the awards. It was a difficult job picking only one in each category, but it is wonderful to know the quality the young folks who will be carrying our Music and Dance into the future.

The winner of the Byron D. Cameron Music Scholarship for 2010 is
Miss Caitlin Daniels of Dallas, TX

The winner of the Irish/Celtic Dance Scholarship for 2010 is
Miss Sarah Catherine Troy of Dallas, TX

Both winners will be presented their awards at the 2010 NTIF at a time to be determined. The awards ceremony is usually held on Sunday afternoon at the Emerald Stage.
